If you ever visit the Carribean, steer clear of any trees marked with a red “X;” otherwise, you risk coming face to face with the manchineel — the nastiest plant in the world. Native to the tropics, the manchineel produces an extremely irritating sap that is so caustic it can cause burns just from touching your skin. Standing under the tree when it’s raining is enough to cause severe contact dermatitis, so it’s no good for shelter. Cutting into the tree can cause its sap to squirt out, which can potentially blind you. And don’t even think about burning one down — the smoke it produces can hurt your skin and eyes, too! The tree even produces a fruit that, by all accounts, is quite tasty. Unfortunately, one fruit is toxic enough to kill several people. In the case of the manchineel, its bark is just as bad as its bite!

Perhaps drones are the only way to handle such a nasty plant.
