Collectible AmericanaArt ! What are investors and collectors REALLY putting their money on? Most people think “Art” is just paint on a canvas. But, Art is far more than a just a mix of solvents and powders. To use the ole cliché, “Art is in the eye of the beholder”. To a sports card collectors, Art is the masterpiece representation of Mickey Mantle on his 1952 Rookie Card. To a vintage movie poster collector, art is Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi or Lon Chaney represented on a one sheet movie poster after they’ve been transformed into their iconic monster roles by Master make-up artist Jack Pierce. And to a photographer or historic photography collector, Art is an intimate moment of Marilyn Monroe captured on film by Legendary photographers like Andre de Dienes. . One of my collecting passions is Unopened 1960s Matchboxes, still in the Blister packs. This morning I was looking at some of my favorites pieces, realizing what I love most of all are the Blister Cards that house the vintage matchbox car and original box. In amazement that something could have survived without even being opened for nearly 60 years ! For some reason, I love the colors and design of the blister cards, and to me THAT’S ART! .
