Girl Power

Girl Power
They're petite in stature, but giants in grit and skill. Bangladesh’s first all-female floor hockey team has been beating the men round after round to earn themselves a place in the finals – an amazing feat for a team that was formed just six months before the World Winter Games.

Members of the team come from all across Bangladesh – mostly rural villages with few opportunities. Sadia Akhter Urmi, 19, is one of them.

“Special Olympics has changed our lives,” says Sadia.

Forgetting the Bombs

Beating the Bombs
She fled the bomb zone, and she arrived in a country where dreams come true. Asmaa Naser Eddin is 20 years old and she is the first Syrian athlete medalist at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria.

In 14.9 seconds, she finished the snowshoeing 25m final and won the silver medal. “This medal means a future for me. It is for my mother and for my country because in Syria, it was Mother's Day,” Asmaa said.
