Yanko Design - Form Beyond Function |
Accessories for your audio accessories! Posted: 14 Jul 2016 12:21 PM PDT It’s surprising why not a single headphone maker has thought about headphone cable management. Literally no one. I guess they’re busy shitting bricks because Apple plans to ditch the 3.5mm jack (I’m going to keep ranting about this, you’ve been warned). MClip and MBand come to save the day with their funky swagger plus functional design. Magnets usually interfere with the headphone’s music playing abilities, but the MClip and MBand get it just right so you can have your cake and eat it too. The accessories allow you to snap headphones to one another, and even to the clip, so that you don’t have to dig through a meter of wire just to find both earpieces. The magnets are customizable too, allowing you to choose between hip, geek, and classy. You like?? I like! Designer: Daehoon Jung |
Posted: 14 Jul 2016 09:02 AM PDT Have you ever purchased fruits or veggies but they have gone out of date in a very short time before you could relish in their goodness? Happens all the time to me. That’s why Im so excited about the Lök Fruit Bowl. As fruits and veggies ripen, they release a gas called ethylene. This controls the texture, color, softening, and more during the ripening process. Yet, if the the fruits and vegetables come into contact with too much ethylene, it will cause them to go back more quickly – hence making them inedible and thrown directly into the compost pile. However, with Lök Fruit Bowl, we can enjoy our healthy fruits and vegetables much longer. Lök uses an ethylene absorber. Ethylene isn’t so bad however, since it has been shown to contribute to cell division, DNA synthesis and development in meristems of roots. The Lök Fruit Bowl turns around and uses the absorbed ethylene to help grow plant life. So users can grow their own herbs, or plants in the plant pot of the Lök Fruit Bowl. Talk about the circle of life, and a longer time of enjoying your fruits and veggies. Designer: Adam Cheung |
Posted: 14 Jul 2016 06:24 AM PDT Music has the ability to move you, but Sticky Sounds is a speaker that has the ability to make sure the music source doesn’t move itself! It’s triangular (illuminati?) shape gives it a unique aesthetic, while it comes with a robust mounting feature on the back allowing you to pretty much attach it to anything. It uses a GoPro compatible mount, meaning all your GoPro rigs and fixtures can now multitask! Sticky Sounds is IPX6 Water Proof, because if you can’t mount a speaker to a surfboard, you’re just missing out on one of those beautiful things life has to offer! It comes with an 8 hour battery life and an SD card slot, so you don’t need to connect it to your iPod or phone. Its build is shockingly tough, which means you’re actually encouraged to go wild with this gadget. Mount it on the underside of your skateboard, go skydiving with it. Just don’t throw a Nokia 3310 at it. Or maybe you should, just to check. Do let us know, though! Designer: London Lazerson Buy It Here: $39.99 $68.95 |
Don’t Let Your Camping Go Up In Flames Posted: 14 Jul 2016 03:00 AM PDT When you’re camping, all it takes is a few forgotten embers from the campfire to turn your dream getaway into a total nightmare! Each year, tents and campers’ belongings go up in flames because of fire mishaps. Similar to an integrated indoor fire sprinkler system, the Campinguard was designed to combat these disaster situations. It’s a light, a fire alarm device and an automatic fire extinguishing system in one. If a fire occurs in a tent, the fire detection alarm will sound, the LED lights are turned on and an extinguishing liquid will be dispensed to extinguish the fire. Campers can simply hang it in their tent and rest assured that they and their belongings will be safe and sound! Campinguard is a 2015 Red Dot Award: Design Concept winner. Posted: 14 Jul 2016 12:10 AM PDT Whether you’re leaving or staying, the front door is usually your first and last point of contact with your home… so why shouldn’t it be as multifunctional and helpful as say, your smartphone? Introducing, the Smart Door. It’s designed to keep homeowners safe from break-ins, fire, and other accidents. In addition, it incorporates weather and thermal sensors; it is integrated with thermal and video cameras. This door reminds the owners to take an umbrella if it is raining or give a simple reminder if there is to be a change in weather. Smart Door also watches over those who are inside and watches out for those outside. It knows its owners, differentiates between pets and can even be used to set reminders for dog walking. With a mobile phone or a tablet application, one can use the system to control and monitor the house. The basic functions include: a safety lock, full length camera view of visitors, a protection system for children, a full report on the movements in and around the house, and more. Coolest of all, changeable Smart Door designs and colors to customize your entrance! Smart Door is a 2015 Red Dot Award: Design Concept winner. Designer: Valerii Kuznetsov |
CKIE Product of the week – Stagg Kettle Posted: 13 Jul 2016 02:37 PM PDT Good designs get featured on Yanko once, awesome designs get multiple features! The Stagg Kettle was introduced before, but its awesomeness has brought it back, and right into our CKIE store! All you readers who were wowed back then and continue to be wowed by Stagg’s elegantly superb design, can head to the CKIE store and grab yourself this beauty. The kettle’s unusual aesthetic gives it a certain grace and an air of superiority. Matte Black and Chrome remain my favorite finishes (no, I don’t care for Champagne Gold), and you can see why! They complement Stagg’s strangely calming form, while also giving it a powerful character (calming and powerful sound like perfect adjectives for your coffee, don’t they??) Stagg’s USP however, remains its crown jewel, the thermometer on the lid. A crown perfect for a kettle to rule over others! Available at: CKIE [Buy it here] |
The Interesting Illumination Interaction Posted: 13 Jul 2016 12:42 PM PDT The Heng lamp has a unique aesthetic that may remind some of the Dyson bladeless fan, but that resemblance has somewhat become synonymous with clever design, no? The Heng’s clever design lies in its brilliant element of interaction that controls the lamp’s light. The lamp’s hollow center has two floating orbs within it that switch on and off the light within the lamp’s ring. The orbs are suspended by a string and have a magnet inside them. The strings are short enough to allow both the orbs to be attracted to each other, yet still not touch. When the lower orb enters the magnetic field of the upper one, the lamp switches on. Release the lower orb and the lamp goes off. This brilliant interaction sets a standard for how we perceive and work with products. The playful element of magnetism and levitation has LOADS of potential, don’t you think?! Designer: Zanwen Li |
