The Future of Levitating Transportation Posted: 16 Dec 2016 09:00 AM PST It might not look like anything fancy, but the MIT Hyperloop Project aims to revolutionize the way we move. Using electromagnetic levitation, it offers fast, efficient and weatherproof travel. The droplet-shaped pod would be capable of carrying 28 passengers. Unlike maglev transit systems which require a large power infrastructure, the stripped-down Hyperloop Project is much less expensive to produce and keep running. Designer: Main & Partners |
Get Yourself a Kryptonite Keychain! Posted: 16 Dec 2016 06:21 AM PST You’ll never own a keychain cooler than the Gaslight. It embodies absolute steampunk glory with its metal enclosure and a vial of glowing Embrite liquid on the inside. The Embrite absorbs sunlight or any UV light during the day and unleashes its glory in the dark, illuminating enough for you to be able to spot your keychain from a distance. Imagine never having to fumble for your keys in the dark… or in the day too, because the Gaslight looks so fascinatingly geeky, you’re not going to miss it. The Gaslight even works wonderfully as a zipper pull, or just a decorative bag-hang accessory. Designed with the intent to inspire mystery, the Gaslight almost works like an Anglerfish, glowing in the dark depths of the ocean, attracting creatures to its warm and spellbinding aura. The quirky yet very pocket-able design looks a class apart from any keychain you’ll ever see. The Embrite vial has a peculiarly comforting glow, making you want to touch it, examine it, and own it! You can choose between Aluminum, Black Aluminum, Brass/Copper, and even the ultra-tough Titanium outer enclosure. The Embrite vials within are available in Acid Green and Aqua Blue. The Gaslight comes from the high-priest of contemporary steampunk EDC (everyday carry), Gamble Staempfli. Inspired primarily by from dystopian science fiction, steampunk fashion, space droid aesthetics and Gothic architecture, Gamble makes products with a rather strong, outworldly character that definitely beckons a second glance. Me, I can barely take my eyes off this spooky, luminous, hypnotic wonder! Plus what do you know, you may just be able to defeat Superman with this glowing thing. You listening, Bruce Wayne? Posted: 16 Dec 2016 12:04 AM PST We are constantly hiding our ugly appliances, putting them behind doors or masking them as regular cabinets. It’s pure madness, really. A select few fridges, however, are so aesthetically appealing you’d be proud to have them on display in your kitchen. So long as your style is ultramodern, FRIDSET just might be one you’d want as-is. Its sleek. Like, way sleek. It’s also slightly odd… perhaps even severe. The cooling unit is located above a completely open space intended to be used for storage… or simply displaying something cool. This means easy access for users who no longer have to bend down to reach items. In a cool combination of metal and glass, its stark aesthetic will be right at home as a modern kitchen highlight you’ll be happy to show off. Designer: Jee Na Jun |
A timeless yet futuristic lamp Posted: 15 Dec 2016 02:29 PM PST The Futura lighting by Hangar Design and Vistosi have an interesting aesthetic. Off the first glance, I’m reminded of Harman Kardon’s Aura speakers that created waves in the market (and still do) for having a transparent enclosure and a far-from-conventional design. The Futura lamps create the same wave, with their form and use of transparent and translucent materials. The interesting piece of innovation is at the bottom of the lamp. While one would think that it’s plastic, or even marble, the lower shade is actually glass that’s been made translucent using a particular handicraft process. Hangar Design won’t tell us what it was! Either which way, we get an interesting lamp design that manages to be contemporary yet futuristic at the same time! Designers: Hangar Design Group & Vistosi. |
