Yanko Design - Form Beyond Function |
Posted: 10 Mar 2017 12:00 PM PST Super L is perhaps the cutest air purifier ever! Its atomic-style legs and slim profile allow it to blend in seamlessly with your other furniture, unlike other unsightly air units. Designed to be as autonomous as it is aesthetically pleasing, it detects the air quality indoors and makes adjustments on its own to purify and remove pollution. Synced with a smartphone app, it can even detect when the user is on the way home and prepare the air to be extra fresh and clean by the time they arrive! Designer: Dongwook Yoon |
Posted: 10 Mar 2017 10:00 AM PST Does the name Daniel Simon sound familiar? Well it better! He’s only the most iconic modern transportation concept designer there is! You’ll have seen his work in TRON: Egacy, Obliviin, and Captain America to name a few sources. Here’s his latest venture. Roborace partnered with legendary designer Daniel Simon to design their driverless race car. Quite the opposite in terms of this Audi’s outlook, this car actually believes the future of formula racing Will be completely autonomous, where algorithms battle to win races. The styling of the car blends functional, with futuristic, and a signature Daniel Simon touch. The lack of a traditional cockpit changes the way the car is perceived, allowing it to be flatter at the center, making space for a lot of AI and cameras/sensors. The 199mph car is also designed with a surplus of air intake vents, allowing the internal hardware to stay cool, because hey, racing can be stressful for artificial intelligence too! Posted: 10 Mar 2017 06:00 AM PST If Adamantium was an actual metal, I’m sure this pen would’ve been made of it, but it’s made of the next best thing. The Titanium pen is ENTIRELY made out of titanium. Everything from the body to the clip, to even the internal mechanism (and the spring, it’s a feat of engineering), is machined out of solid titanium billets. There couldn’t be a more apt time for this pen, given how we will sorely miss our favorite adamantium claw wielding Marvel mutant. This pen may just be the perfect ode to his career. And yes, it’s pretty much indestructible too. Most pens come with just titanium outer bodies. They rely on rotating mechanisms for the refill, or easier still, a cap. The Titanium Pen isn’t like those. It not only opts for a click-in click-out format, every component in the pen (except the refill) is individually milled/machined out of solid titanium. So yes, this one-of-a-kind pen literally will last you forever. While there’s nothing that can destroy or even touch the Titanium Pen, it can one-up itself by writing underwater too! Opt for a refill like the Fisher Space Refill and you can write underwater or in space. The titanium doesn’t rust or lose its mechanical action under water. The pen’s design is simple and minimal so as to show off its proudest feature, i.e., the titanium build. It comes in five parts put together and weighs a surprisingly light 80gms. A pen this mighty deserves its own excalibur-esque boulder too. The Titanium pen comes with rather neat titanium-machined stand, so you feel like a monarch every time you pull it out to wield its exquisite writing power! Posted: 10 Mar 2017 03:36 AM PST This minimalist stool design is not only stylish but sustainable! Its seat is formed from a material you might never have heard of called eelgrass found along the beaches of the North Sea. From Germany alone, thousands of tons of this submerged aquatic vegetation wash up and are removed before being sent to landfills. Designer Carolin Peitsch saw an opportunity to put the plentiful grass to use and created a fiber-reinforced eco plastic made with the aid of bio-resin. The resulting output is lightweight, durable and has a look that’s quite natural with each unit having its own unique character. Designer: Carolin Pertsch |
Posted: 10 Mar 2017 12:00 AM PST What if the Osulloc brand, known for their green tea treats, made a juicer? This concept by PDF HAUS explores that very question. As simple as it is powerful, it makes drawing juice a straightforward process that anyone can do. Simply drop in your desired veggies or fruits and turn on the tap to pour a fresh glass. A driver-reliant car in an autonomous future Posted: 09 Mar 2017 02:00 PM PST Designer Arie Hutton feels Audi’s design language has gone through constant evolution in the past few years. Therefore designing for 20 years in the future would mean creating something completely different, probably having no link to Audi’s current language, except for the iconic 4 ring logo on the front. The Audi Formula Track 2036 has a strange backstory. It’s the year 2036, and autonomous cars have taken over… as a result of which, the car has become a travelling space, rather than an automotive product. People will end up just sitting in their cars, rather than experiencing the thrill of driving them. The Audi Formula Track therefore is the only place where people can actually drive cars for the adrenaline rush. Its racecar design implies a future where driving a car will be limited to just the racetrack, rather than actual roads. Driving may just go from a skill, to a hobby. Thoughts?
