Posted: 28 Jun 2017 12:00 PM PDT Snapperchat because of the snapper fish? Get it? Never mind. With the SeaSeeker mask, Snapchat plans to go where no social network has gone before… the big blue! The SeaSeeker by Royal Caribbean International hopes to allow the ephemeral video format to hit the high seas, giving deep sea divers a way to engage with their followers in a way that has never been done before. The mask was designed to fit Snapchat’s proprietary Snap spectacles right in, and even comes with a snap trigger that allows you to start and stop video. The SeaSeeker hopes to give divers the opportunity to document their travels in a unique format designed especially for Snapchat’s millennial community. Is it enough to help Snapchat rise to past-glory again? That remains an entirely different discussion altogether. Personally, this adds diversity to Snapchat’s video capabilities, which can only be a good thing. Not many people Snapchat from the deep blue seas. Well, maybe they should! Hack your Sleep like Nikola Tesla Posted: 28 Jun 2017 10:50 AM PDT Nikola Tesla, Leonardo da Vinci, Salvador Dali, Thomas Edison, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Buckminster Fuller. Do you know what all these geniuses had in common? They all mastered the art of productivity by hacking their sleep cycles to the fullest extent. By calibrating their sleep needs and planning out sleep timings, they could satisfy their body with almost 3-4 hours of intense, deep sleep and stay productive for 20 hours or more. Every single person has a different sleep requirement. Timing, duration, intensity, and even sleep conditions change from person to person. The only problem is we don’t know them. I for one, may be a sleeper who just needs five hours from midnight to 5am, whereas you may be able to satisfy your sleep needs with just four hours, from say 2am to 6am. That’s where sleep assistants come in. They can be an app, or a wearable, but nothing is quite as effective as a smart headband. Designed for the explicit purpose of giving you precise control over your sleep, the Neuroon Open (you may remember them from their previous campaign) is an open-source headband that can be used for effective sleeping, smart waking, deep meditation, polyphasic sleep, and lucid dreaming. The wearable comes in two parts, an EEG (electroencephalogram) that measures brain-waves, and an eye-mask that has LEDs within it, to help you wake up, or to trigger a lucid dream. The EEG can be used to monitor brain waves, allowing you to get a precise reading of your sleep habits and needs, also allowing you to meditate by playing out audio cues to lull your brain into the correct meditative state. Pair this with the eye-mask and you have a consolidated sleep assistant resting against your forehead, analyzing your mind’s needs and presenting them to you with medical-grade accuracy via Neuroon’s app, that comes with a wide variety of features Neuroon Open’s most incredible feature is its ability to go to the extent of creating the perfect environment for sleep and waking. It pairs with your thermostat, smart-lights, and audio devices to make sure your immediate surroundings are conducive to a good night’s sleep, and/or a well-lit environment that makes you feel refreshed and invigorated. All these features are further empowered by Neuroon’s open-source network, that allows users to customize their Neuroon Opens to the max, and even develop on it, based on their needs. Serious tinkerers can even build their own Neuroon headbands by accessing the electronics guides on Neuroon’s websites! Created for anyone who’s ever said the words “If only there were more than 24 hours in a day”, Neuroon Open’s purpose is to juice every bit of productivity out of your 24 hours. Instead of sleeping those eight hours (which is a myth), Neuroon tells you how many hours your body needs, allowing you to add up to an entire day of productivity to your week. Posted: 28 Jun 2017 09:00 AM PDT That trend of sitting on exercise balls at work sure seems to have fizzled. Perhaps it’s because it made offices look like jungle gyms! Now you can get the same core-building benefits in a more compact, handsome package thanks to Muista. You’ll never be chopping ‘bored’ Posted: 27 Jun 2017 05:05 PM PDT There’s something simple and beautiful about this chopping board with a storage box. It ticks all the boxes of good product design, solving problems without creating new ones. You slice your veggies or any other food that needs slicing and then either store the sliced bits in the container and use it to directly empty contents into your cooking vessel, or use the board for peeling and store all the leftovers and peels in the container, which then empties itself into the waste bin. The container and chopping board are two independent units that lock together, forming one superior kitchen product that rests perfectly on any counter-top, courtesy its ‘L’ shape. Anti-slip pads on the base of the board keep it in place,so you can go full Gordon Ramsay on your food-prep. The interlocked pieces can be pulled apart and used/stored separately, plus they’re even dishwasher safe. Rather elegant, I’d say! Designer: Dewel BUY NOWBUY NOW |
Not your regular kind of gaming mod! Posted: 27 Jun 2017 03:30 PM PDT I’m telling you, we may have accidentally (we’re not sorry) triggered a modularity revolution! There’s absolutely no shortage of modular concepts and if nothing, we’ve seen more than a fair share in the past few weeks (take for example this modular microphone concept, or these modular shoes that we love, or even this DIY modular smartphone). The EXEO is the next in the series of “things made modular”. This series of concept controllers for console gaming are designed to be used individually as Nintendo Wii-esque hand-held modules. Designed for separate purposes, the Velox, Brutus, and Terra make rather useful controllers for various scenarios. However, things get interesting when they pair up, allowing you to make more complex instruments of gaming, from bike-handlebars, to an F1 steering wheel, to a joypad, and to even a massive plasma shotgun. My personal favorite however is the assembly for archery, that uses 3 Velox modules and one Brutus module. All modules smartly fit into one another, recognizing what they’re being crafted into when you plug them together. Not only do they come with controls on them, they even include feedback lights, that totally uplift your gaming experience. Let’s hope Nintendo makes this dream come true! Designer: Sushant Vohra |
Concrete speakers deliver hard-hitting audio Posted: 27 Jun 2017 02:24 PM PDT Who knew that the very material that is virtually synonymous with architecture, had such great acoustics?! Germany-based audio company Concrete Audio (the name couldn’t be more direct) decided to ditch wood and ceramic as materials for speaker enclosures and opted for something rather avant-garde, resulting in speakers that don’t just feel robust, but sound incredibly powerful too. The F1 is a flat, wall-mounted speaker that despite its size and thickness can churn out some seriously goosebump-inducing audio. Made from a slab of concrete, with a rather nicely arrayed pattern of audio drivers, the F1 uses highest-quality audio components like copper foil coils and silver-gold capacitors that work in tandem with concrete’s wave-reproducing abilities to seriously impress.
