Yanko Design - Form Beyond Function |
Posted: 05 Sep 2017 10:00 AM PDT As minimalistic as it might be, the DrinKlean ZERO 1 mini air purifier packs a powerful, multifunctional punch! It can be used in one of three distinct ways. The first way can be used for immediate air purification even when you’re on the go. Using a convenient rubber handle, you can throw the durable unit in a bag or carry it while you’re camping. The second way works as passive purification on the charging hub. Leave it in your favorite room or in a workspace for consistent air cleaning you can set and forget! The last way is for more aggressive air cleaning. Attach the unit to the moveable stand for a direct blast of purified air in any direction. Use the smartphone app to adjust the strength in one of four intensities. Designer: Jaeyoung Kim 01 Tumbler Mode: Power-OFF state/The tumbler mode has a air bottle shape and has a structure for convenient portability. The World’s Best Pen Turns Immortal Posted: 05 Sep 2017 06:58 AM PDT 2016’s World’s Best Pen comes back to get immortalized in the forever metal. Delighting pen enthusiasts (penthusiasts?) for two years in a row, the Kosmos Pen is back in a new, titanium avatar while retaining the same classic design. Christened the Kosmos Titan, the writing instrument is precision milled from a solid Grade-5 Titanium billet. With a newly devised magnetic system on the inside (featuring neodymium magnets), the pen’s opening/closing action works like an absolute charm, with its simple yet sophisticated ‘click’. The pen comes in a matte version like its aluminum counterpart, but also makes itself available in a mirror finish variant, which promises to never lose its luster or collect scratches, thanks to Titanium’s physical properties. The Mirror-Polished Version of Titan runs through multiple extensive polishing stages to give its superior surface finish which promises to last a lifetime and some more. Designed with the award winning aesthetic of the original Kosmos, but with a material upgrade, the Kosmos Titan retains the same two-piece pen construction. The matte variant comes in a space gray color, accentuated by a chrome belt running along the middle (visible when the pen is closed). The mirror finished titanium variant features a gun-metal colored belt that punctuates its design beautifully, doing full justice to the Red Dot Best of the Best Award it has to its credit. Looks like the Kosmos Titan is more pen-tastic and pen-credible than before! Designer: stilform Fun to Play! – The simplest and most intuitive way to get a pen ready for writing: our new mechanism makes it possible. Designed by Nature – The minimalistic design of KOSMOS is based on a universal pattern of nature: the Golden Ratio. |
Posted: 05 Sep 2017 05:00 AM PDT Temp is a design so simple it’ll make you say “duh”! It’s a smart spoon that works in tandem with a smart hob to ensure your foods are always cooked correctly. For example: perfectly prepared pasta is made possible by simply slipping it in to any pot or pan. You can monitor it remotely from your smartphone, using the temp app keep an eye on the vessel’s temperature and cook time. You can also make adjustments directly from your phone! Oh, and it’s also pretty spiffy as a spoon! Designer: Jack O’Farrell |
Posted: 05 Sep 2017 12:00 AM PDT If you’ve never heard of Renard (French for fox), that’s probably because you’re probably under the age of 90! A couple of designers and racing engineers got together back in 2008 to revive the Estonian brand founded in the 1930s… and it looks fresh as ever. Its character lies in a modern, one-of-a-kind monocoque body that’s met with retro lines and a logical form. Quite simply, there’s nothing else like it! However, it’s not so quirky that any amount of functionality or user-friendliness has been sacrificed. That ultra-light composite unibody integrates the bike’s frame, fuel tank, and air box into a single load-bearing unit that houses a longitudinally mounted V2 Moto Guzzi Quattrovalvole engine and components that represent the cutting edge of the motorcycle industry. Specs: Engine type: V2 90° Moto Guzzi Quattrovalvole Designers: Andres Uibomäe, Ando Paapstel & Mait Mahlapuu for Renard |
This calculator is nerdy and aesthetic! Posted: 04 Sep 2017 06:00 PM PDT Math isn’t boring. However, sometimes educational techniques don’t help making it interesting. Look at graphing calculators for example. They still embody an aesthetic from the 80s and 90s, and not in a good way. Looking more outdated than retro, these calculators are instruments of the profession, but they do little to spark curiosity or interest in it. Built as probably the first (and only) graphing calculator with a GUI that will drive most nerds crazy, the Numworks Calculator is designed to help high school students learn and solve math problems, and includes a variety of in-built programs for different math scenarios. Packed with apps for calculation, functions, sequences, probability, statistics, and regression, as well as a tool for designing and executing Python algorithms, the Numworks Calculator adds a certain beauty and reduces complexity, making it one of the few calculators most non-mathematicians and non-scientists would strive to own! Plus, you can even check out the detailed online simulator to test out the calculator! Designer: Numworks BUY NOWBUY NOW |
Posted: 04 Sep 2017 04:00 PM PDT 50% impossible, 50% real vehicle, and 100% awesomeness, the Apocalyptic Vehicle series by Jomar Machado gives us a taste of what our rides would look like if the world collapsed into collective chaos. An early adopter of 3D modeling (back in 1994), Machado became a master of his craft. His love for the art and production of films like Star Trek, Stars Wars, Babylon 5, Dune and Blade Runner helped him develop a distinct style, something very evident from his current work. The vehicles below (and above) combine real cars with impossible technology and military grade weapons to give us something that looks right out of Death Race, or Carmageddon, or Mad Max (but less dusty). After intensive research of each vehicle (during which he collects up to 150 pictures) he begins modeling. This can take two weeks to finish. From Mustangs to Dodges and Bugattis, he transforms the original cars, as we know them into motorcars of mayhem with everything from armored windows, to turret guns for headlights. Do check out his blog for more in his apocalyptic automotive armory! Designer: Jomar Machado |
Posted: 04 Sep 2017 02:07 PM PDT Crazy on the outside, yet classy on the inside, the Solo House project by TNA Architects for Matarrana, Spain looks highly unstable, but one must never judge anything solely by its looks, right? The inverted pyramid shaped house one of 12 such projects by French Developer Christian Bourdais who aims at capturing where the cutting edge of architecture stands at the beginning of the 21st century. The gravity defying structure stands out starkly against the otherwise downward sloping mountainous landscape of Matarrana, creating a beautiful contrast. On the inside, the slopes of the pyramid become the staircases that guide one around the eccentric establishment, leading to mezzanine floors and rooms that offer a spectacular view of the mountains outside. Plus, would you look at that inverted pyramid pool! Designers: Makoto Takei & Chie Nabeshima (TNA Architects) |
