Lynko was designed to be character-shifting, making it nomadic. A few simple adjustments would make it an ideal decorative book and plant-shelf for the living room, while a change here or there would make it perfect for the kitchen. The Lynko was therefore designed to mirror its user’s character and reflect their needs, becoming a piece of furniture that’s not just functional but personal too. Plus, with its folding schematic, it’s also easy to carry around the house!

Introducing, artificial emotional intelligence. That’s the name of the game for the Laier speaker. Over time, it learns you and your music tastes and how what you play relates to your mood.

It’s designed to distinguish between music types, rhythms, and to pick up on the subtle nuances that make a song happy, sad, fun, or mad. Then, it reflects associated colors and patterns of light on its 4 semitransparent layers to further enhance the mood!

A Family of Suitcases that Stick Together!

I’ve been a long standing fan of the modular approach to traveling. Take the Leather Duffle from last year for example. The very idea of having three separate bags but handling them as one bag is convenient, not just because it makes carrying items less of a hassle… but it also means all your belongings are in one place, and not scattered about. The Valluse takes that very idea and expands it. A combination of the words Value and Valise (French for suitcase), the Valluse is a triad of suitcases for the traveler, designed in three sizes, but with the ability to be combined into one.

The three suitcases that comprise the Valluse are sized perfectly for taking on a plane. The large case is spacious and can easily be checked into your flight luggage, while the two smaller bags easily fit the dimension regulations for carrying on board as cabin luggage. However the creators of Valluse knew that three bags may be better than one, but carrying three bags can be nothing short of a nightmare. That’s why the Valluse bags were designed to securely lock together, becoming one super-bag that could be easily wheeled around as a single unit. The Valluse united can be easily wheeled with just a single hand, down aisles/walkways, through elevators, and to airport kiosks, giving you a free hand to do everything from call a taxi, summon an elevator, to show the airline personnel your ticket/passport, or even access your phone.

The modular Valluse suitcases come with a hard, Polycarbonate shell that’s virtually break-proof and dent-proof, and can take the roughest of treatment from luggage handlers and still look as good as new, while keeping your luggage inside well protected. A reinforced Aluminum frame gives the Valluse its shape, coupling with the Polycarbonate to increase durability.

VIP Urban Railways

Charles Bombardier developed this private people mover after reading Ayn Rand’s epic novel Atlas Shrugged. In it, the heroine used her family’s railroad track to travel from city to city. That made him wonder if “business trains” could one day become a reality. Would it be possible to sell them like business jets? That’s the idea behind the Randvu!

It’s designed to cut back on commuting times for 9-5ers who subscribe to the system (but own private “cars”) by utilizing existing and new rail tracks. Each car operates independently and can hop on or off the tracks to skip gridlock. Subscribers can go directly from their office door to their dwelling without getting stuck in traffic all while sitting in a posh retro-modern interior with lush couches, mahogany furniture, and an on-board bar. Interiors can also be custom designed according to the owner’s specifications.

The wallet that’s bigger on the inside

Ah, the humble bi-fold wallet. We love them. They store all your belongings in a double layered schematic; and if made well, they still manage to stay slim. They’re even the first image you think of when you say the word ‘wallet’.

The Wally Agent by Distil Union takes the traditional idea of a bi-fold and tweaks it just a little bit, so it looks and feels like a bi-fold wallet, but is in fact a combination of good design and great craftsmanship. Made from hand-rolled full grain leather, the wallet manages to stay eye-defyingly slim while holding up to 30 bills along with 12 cards that can be easily accessed via the Wally’s Pull-Tab pockets that will have you slinging cards faster than a cowboy slings guns (with some practice, of course).

The Wally Agent was size-calibrated to fit different-sized notes from a variety of countries across all continents. When closed, the wallet measures just a mere 7mm (0.3 inches) in thickness, and comes fully NFC compatible, allowing you to tap your cards at payment portals without even taking them out of your wallet. You can even get your hands on an RFID protected version of the Wally Agent too!

On a potato mashin’ mission!

OTOTO remains one of our favorite design-embracing companies. They have a way of linking products and experiences in a way that’s innocent and delightful, creating products that tell stories and become favorites even before being bought!

Take for instance the Space Masher, a rocket turned potato masher that makes the mashed potatoes look like clouds of smoke a space rocket would leave behind (I’m very tempted to make a Spud-nik reference from Friends). The Masher wonderfully fulfills visual as well as functional requirements, becoming a product that isn’t just a novelty… It’s comfortable to use too! What a wonderful way to get kids to help in the kitchen, I say!

Knock out the knock-offs!

Did you know, 90% of the Louis Vuitton bags available on Ebay are counterfeits? The luxury brand is by far the most counterfeited brand of all time with the iconic LV symbol and flower pattern (developed in the 1870s to tackle counterfeits!) is arguably the most copied pattern in the world!

To detect certain details that the human eye cannot, the Entrupy camera was developed. Registered with 16 super-brands from Louis Vuitton to Chanel, Dior Gucci, Prada, and Burberry (to name a few), the Entrupy camera is a portable camera that can, in a non-invasive manner, detect whether a product is an original or a fake in near 15 seconds, with a stunning 98.5% accuracy. For products that can cost north of $2000, that’s quite an achievement. After all, you don’t want to fork out that kind of money for a fake, do you?

The Entrupy camera works on a microscopic level, detecting materials like leather, metal, wood, canvas. It uses a complex set of algorithms and a vast database of brands and their products to determine whether the materials and prints match a certain standard quality. Pairing along with a smartphone, it interacts with the tester using the Entrupy app, finally telling the tester if the product is genuine or fake.

Entrupy can be used by businesses who deal in luxury fashion clothing and accessories. Made for the retailer rather than an individual consumer, the Entrupy can even generate certificates of authenticity that customers can get along with their purchases. Until then, maybe stay away from Ebay…
