Yanko Design - Form Beyond Function |
Posted: 02 Feb 2018 12:00 PM PST Everyone’s busy designing the bikes of the future, while High Powered Cycles are here creating the bikes of now. Their latest release, the Typhoon Pro electric mountain bike is a force to be reckoned with. Perfect for those who spend 90% of their time climbing up to the summit, only to enjoy the 10% of downhill. I’ve never done it, but I’m sure the experience could be made a lot better with the use of an electric bike. This bike is a crossbreed between a ToaToa dirt bike and your standard mountain bike. The tubular steel frame is concealed by a striking black body shell which gives host to an edgy seating choice. Housing a 6,000-watt Crystalyte motor under the frame, this monster can hit top speeds of up to 42 miles per hour – getting you up the side of that mountain before you know it. The contrast between the gold and black really accentuates the frame, while allowing the black to hide the heavy mechanics. Designer: High Powered Cycles |
Posted: 02 Feb 2018 09:02 AM PST The original Razer was aptly named for being the first truly ultra-thin phone and, despite it being unibody, Petar Trlajic’s modern Razer 2.0 concept is no exception. There are purists out there who will still prefer the thin-flip style of the original, but they might also be enticed by the 2.0’s equally flickable screen. This is a gamer’s Razer and is packed with loads of features ideal for powering through your favorite strategy or action adventures. Check out the specs below! Designer: Petar Trlajic |
Single Camera, Dual Lenses, Hundred Possibilities! Posted: 02 Feb 2018 06:37 AM PST There’s this major disparity between the iPhone 8 and the 8 Plus (or even the 7 and 7 plus for that matter). The latter has a dual camera setup on the back while the former doesn’t, making it vastly superior in the photography department, not only because it can achieve portrait style photographs, but more importantly because it can do more with the fact that it has one telephoto lens and one wide angle lens. A lot of people I know ended up feeling shortchanged because they wanted a small iPhone that was as versatile as the big one. The reason a wide-angle lens is so integral to camera photography is because A. it essentially means more imagery within your frame, but also B. it captures the world the way you see it. With our 120° field of view (captured by our right and left eye together), we see a great deal and that’s how we compose our photos. A wide-angle lens helps you capture everything YOU see, and with it, your photos can look remarkably better. Having understood that difference, Omvos decided to create the world’s slimmest iPhone case with its very own wide-angle attachment. Sitting at a super-slim 15mm, the SPLENDOR™ case is always on your phone and provides a wide-angle lens that’s much easier to access than those snap-on lenses because, just like with the 7 and 8 Plus, this lens is always with you on your phone. The Splendor’s 18mm lens gives you a remarkable 110° of wide-angle vision with 0.65x magnification. It even comes with an Anti Smudge and Anti Reflective coating, making sure your pictures are exactly like you imagine them… Crystal clear, near-perfect, and with minimal distortion. The lens can easily be swiped into place when needed and swiped outwards when you want to just click regular pictures. The lens rail even comes with a conical cutout for the video-microphone and a domed mirror cover that rests over the flash, letting you use your new wide-angle attachment to take mesmerizing selfies. All in all, the Splendor is probably the best way to give your iPhone the instant upgrade it needs. The case comes with a bumper design that protects your screen, and even button overlays that help you work the power and volume switches underneath. To make life just a bit easier, the Splendor’s back comes with a built-in foil that lets you rest your phone on magnetic car-mounts. With the Splendor, compromise is out of the question. Your phone may have a single camera, but the Splendor gives it dual identities and purposes in a manner that feels almost natural, while making sure your phone stays protected from accidental slips and drops. The Splendor makes the iPhone 7/8 as great as its elder brothers. It gives you power and feeds your potential to take great snaps, because that’s pretty much what iPhones are meant to do! Posted: 02 Feb 2018 02:33 AM PST Just because your bum might be too big for the slide these days doesn’t mean you can’t relish in the days of yesteryear! That’s the idea behind the cleverly named Playgrown furniture collection. Each unit in the set harkens back to a familiar fragment from days spent on the playground so you never have to grow up. The collection consists of five distinct and playful pieces that kids and adults alike can appreciate. The iconic swing has been reinterpreted as a minimalist chair. A coffee table transforms into a game of hopscotch. Another seating solution is reminiscent of a slide, fit with ladder rungs and all. A planter reminds one of a seesaw. Lastly, monkey bars are transformed into a convenient entryway coatrack. Together, they put the FUN in functionality! Designer: Taylor Scott Ross |
Posted: 01 Feb 2018 09:00 PM PST Once upon a time, Ahab sought revenge upon Moby Dick, the albino sperm whale, while sailing upon the glorious Pequod – to hear of that tale would make any man rush to the sea right? Luckily for those who feel that same longing to hit those crashing waves in their own boat, or simply…just wish to have their own boat in general, can now fulfill that dream. Rapid Whale has really alleviated the stresses and burdens of owning a boat, not even beginning to mention the fees and maintenance attached too. If anything they’ve developed a fun, full-sized mini boat, boasting a length of six foot and fully electrical – made to order and assembly. Comprised of the Mini Boat Kit are laser-cut marine-grade plywood, 3D printer components, a steering wheel, sheeting-shift bearings, and various gaskets – unfortunately, the boat isn’t complete, having to source and purchase the motor, engine, and batteries by the owner. That’s not all too bad considering you now have a boat all to yourself. Weighing in at a staggering sixty-seven pounds and hitting a fairly breezy four miles per hour, the Rapid Whale Mini Boat is sure to itch every nautical tickle you may have. Designer: Rapid Whale |
Posted: 01 Feb 2018 04:00 PM PST It takes usually 3 minutes for your tea leaves to reach peak flavor. Take the leaves out sooner and you haven’t used them to their full capacity, and leave them in for longer and you’ve got over-steeped, bitter tea. So how do you ensure you steep your teabag for exactly 3 minutes? Kang Yeonsoo has a pretty ingenious answer. Merging teacup and hourglass, Yeonsoo’s contraption lets you time your brew. The tea rests in the container at the top while the hourglass at the base of the cup lets you keep time rather accurately. Once the last grain of sand travels from the upper chamber to the lower chamber, take your teabag out, knowing that your brew is just perfect! The Hourglass Teacup is a Silver Winner of the K-Design Award for the year 2017. Designer: Kang Yeonsoo |
Turntable that looks natural, sounds natural. Posted: 01 Feb 2018 02:00 PM PST Echoing the vinyl disc’s gentle concentric carvings, the Barky turntable’s base has something similar, but something that has been around for millennia. A cross section of wood taken from an ash tree, the Barky’s base has wooden age-lines that match perfectly with the shape and nature of vinyl, creating something that looks absolutely surreal as you begin to notice the biomimicry of sorts. Each Barky (I kind of love the trivial name) comes with a slice of ash that’s unique with every piece, finished with a polyurethane coating and paste wax for that glistening polished look. Sitting atop it is a glass platter and blackened solid brass spike feet, along with an award-winning Rega Elys2 cartridge and super high-end Rega RB330 tonearm, giving you a turntable that sounds as natural as it looks. Sigh, I’m in love! Designer: Joel Scilley of Audiowood |
