A different kind of bike donut Posted: 12 Mar 2018 11:00 AM PDT Add the Orbike to Musk’s Boring Company program and you’ve literally got a city that’s perfect for any commuter. Sitting half above and half below the surface of the road, the Orbike is a donut-shaped vending machine that allows people to rent bicycles and bike-related equipment. Designed to be efficient, but more to grab attention, the Orbike rotates inside its transparent shell, allowing you to literally cycle through products before choosing what to buy/rent. Built with dedicated areas to take equipment out and put equipment in, the Orbike provides a rather unique vending experience. With 8 compartments (4 sitting below the surface), the Orbike can store not just different types of bikes but even rinding equipment. Strategically located across the city, the Orbike system can allow you to drive a bicycle from your home to work without actually having to own a bike. Through its system design and innovative user experience, the Orbike is created to encourage bike rentals. Moreover, wouldn’t it make a great landmark/meeting-point?! The Orbike is a winner of the Asia Design Prize for the year 2018. Designers: LiuYeQuan & LiYanrong. |
Posted: 12 Mar 2018 09:05 AM PDT When first imagining the Orbit watch, designer Josh Lopez was inspired by the concept of making the background be the foreground. You’ll find an interactive, ever-moving face that mimics the way the moon and stars make their way across the night sky. An enchanting combination of classic and modern elements, this mesmerizing timepiece retains a traditional hand and numbers. However, the numbers only become visible, fading in and out, as the moon moves across them. Designer: Josh Lopez |
The Thinnest, Lightest Wallet That Ever Lived Posted: 12 Mar 2018 07:00 AM PDT The Micro Wallet answers the question, “How much can you truly achieve with minimalism?”. Its answer is, “Quite a bit!”. Designed to be the thinnest and lightest wallet we’ve ever seen, the Micro Wallet is just 2.3mm thick, is durable, waterproof, eco-friendly, comes with space for 8 cards and cash, and even integrates RFID protection. It also acts as a canvas for art, featuring the works of artists all around the globe, making it (also) much more fun than your traditional leather, fabric, or even your contemporary metal card-holder/money-clip. Fashioned out of Tyvek (a material that’s seen itself get used everywhere from postal envelopes to shoe design, to even use during the Space Shuttle program), the wallet manages to achieve everything you’d expect out of a bifold, but at a mere fraction of the weight and thickness. At just 2.3mm thick (that’s just 0.3mm thicker than a card), the Micro Wallet can fit cash and up to 8 cards together, and still be thin enough to sit in your pocket without giving you the pocket-bump that you’d get with a leather wallet. Tyvek offers some noteworthy physical properties. It’s virtually tear-proof, durable/expandable, light, water resistant, and most importantly, eco-friendly. Another property of Tyvek is its ability to be printed on. Paper-thin, Tyvek doesn’t just act as a wallet’s material but also as a canvas for your fashion statement. Designed in collaboration with artists from all around the world, the Micro Wallet features seamless artwork all around it. Treating the wallet as not just a storage device, but also a canvas for art, the Micro Wallet gives the wallet its true status of a fashion accessory, allowing you to express a style, as you would with your attire. It’s quite remarkable how much the Micro Wallet can do with its minimalist approach. Designed with the capabilities of a regular bi-fold wallet, the Micro Wallet is just a size and material cut-back, and not a functional one. Waterproof, tear-proof, and RFID secure, the Micro Wallet is unquestionably as good as the wallet you currently have. At just a fraction of the thickness (and price), and surrounded with incredible art that’s definitely worth showing off, the Micro Wallet is perhaps better than the wallet you currently have! Posted: 12 Mar 2018 05:21 AM PDT These would be his tools of choice! The first is a sleek, modern twist on the garden tool that actually combines the 3 most common shovel types in one simple, space-saving unit. The shovel, rake and trowel nest together when you’re not using them. The second item in the set is a watering can with an entirely new shape. It’s modeled after modern water bottles for familiarity. Its spill-proof spout is integrated into the ring cap which is designed to make it easy to carry. Compact, convenient and easy-to-clean, the collection is ideal for urban gardeners living in compact spaces! Designer: Ha-Young Lee |
The Evolution of the Bang & Olufsen A-series Posted: 12 Mar 2018 12:00 AM PDT The latest from designer Hamid Bekradi, the Bang & Olufsen A3 Capsule was conceived to bridge the gap between the ultra-durable, rectangular A2 Beoplay Active and the circular Beoplay A1 speakers. This all-new model sports a power amplifier that reaches peak performance at 180w. Unlike the previous 2 models, however, its cylindrical shape delivers true 360° sound. Like the rest of the wireless B&O family, Bluetooth connectivity offers it convenient streaming from all your smart devices. Made from extruded aluminum with a rubberized plastic base and handsome leather handle, it’s sleekness is in line with the B&O design language yet rugged enough for you to enjoy your music indoors and out.
