Unlike many other electronic locks which needs to be wired or integrated directly into a door, SLOK can instantly secure your home, safe or storage unit without hard installation. It functions much in the same way as a traditional padlock but utilizes your smartphone and Bluetooth tech to lock and unlock. From the SLOK app, you can automatically unlock the device when you’re within range as well as set your own unique passcode and share it with anyone whom you’d like to give access. You can also monitor the lock’s history and get notifications when it’s being used. Designer: Dae Young Kim |
| Posted: 05 Apr 2018 08:00 AM PDT We, as humans, often take artificial light for granted, we switch on our desk lamps, reading lights, or ceiling lights without a second thought of what is powering them or the consequences that it may have. This funky looking lamp forces the user to think twice about their need for light in a rather ingenious way! The Dina Lamp requires money in order to work, the user simply drops a coin into the top of the product, they are then redeemed with light. This process aims to help them become more aware of the value of light and the amount of energy that it requires. And doesn’t the Dina Lamp look great? Its unique form and playful off-switch makes for an attractive package. It would be a striking addition to any home and perhaps it would change a few minds along the way! Airo is an experimental radio that reads tweets out to you. Using Arduino controllers and Twitter’s API, the Airo fetches tweets and translates text to speech, reading them out like the headlines on a radio. Built with a vertical volume controller at its base, and a knob that lets you select the type of tweet, you can have a stream of news, tech, or music related tweets. A fan at the back acts as a metaphorical horizon widener, allowing you to access tweets from a wider area. Open the fan out more, and the Airo fetches tweets from a larger radius. Designed in and for an era where most news we consume is customized and designed to suit and strengthen our own bubble of beliefs and ideologies, the Airo aims to be a product that looks at information agnostically, delivering tweets to you without filtering or customizing them, and allowing you to physically and mentally broaden horizons! | Posted: 05 Apr 2018 02:00 AM PDT A lot of cars now come standard with sensor tech that can notify you when another car or object is in your blind spot, but what if you could do the same while riding a motorcycle? That’s the idea behind RONIN, a technologically advanced helmet for riders who take their safety seriously. The smart design is equipped with an array of depth=sensing camera tech and radar to provide the rider with enhanced awareness of their surroundings, speed and other metrics. Better yet, it has an augmented reality, head-up display so they can stay focused on the road ahead instead of glancing down at an instrument cluster on the handlebars. Not only for side blind spots, wearers can maintain awareness of their entire surrounding with intuitive notifications that pop up on the visor to indicate traffic, hazards and even the weather. | The electric and electrifying Electra! Posted: 04 Apr 2018 05:00 PM PDT Drawing a fine line between being futuristic and being possible is the Genesis Electra GT Concept, and oh boy, is it beautiful! I don’t really know where to start with admiring the Electra. Is it the transparent windshield that carries forward to the front, providing a fleeting look at the mechanics under the hood? Or the way it traverses backwards to provide a simply divine looking bubble roof? Or wait, it must be the way the headlight strips travel from the front to the side in an absolutely delightfully slick manner, looking thin enough to feel like highlights, but powerful enough to light up the road. It could also be the carbon monocoque body, and the way there’s no solid mass in the car, shown when the gate opens to reveal a grill-like structure instead of a closed, solid bulk. The grill detail even carries on within the car, complementing, and possibly even becoming the hero of the interior. Aside from everything I mentioned earlier, I could also be admiring the fact that this all-electric stallion could go from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. I don’t really know where to start with admiring the Electra… and when I do, I’m not sure if I can stop! Designer: Genesis |
| A kit for the musician on the move! Posted: 04 Apr 2018 03:00 PM PDT I’ve always admired what ROLI does for two reasons. ROLI’s approach to music making has been unconventional and innovative because A. you don’t really need to be proficient at an instrument to make music, and B. they design their products in a way where interaction is so universal, a piano can sound like a violin, so said product can cater to a pianist as well as a violinist. This fluid and experiment-encouraging approach makes ROLI’s products somewhat of a universal standard for musicians and music aficionados. Take for instance the Songmaker Kit. It contains the three products that make up the ROLI catalog, merged into one super-product, like some sort of Power Ranger Megazord. Combining the functionality brought by ROLI’s seaboard and the power blocks, you can literally make music on the go by connecting the entire setup to your phone or tablet. More of a hardcore guy? The Songmaker even connects to your laptop/desktop, allowing you to leverage the freedom of MIDI with the power of your digital audio workstation. | A glass house that uses nature as its decor Posted: 04 Apr 2018 01:00 PM PDT To be honest, with the amount of natural beauty Iceland has to offer, and with its 300K (that’s the entire country), ceilings and walls are A. a hindrance, since they block out the natural beauty of the land, and B. unnecessary, because with its incredibly low population density, you really don’t need the privacy in the countryside. That’s why the Panorama Glass Lounge is all glass. Instead of beautifying its interiors with trinkets and furniture, it uses the outside’s natural beauty to make the interiors feel complete. The bedroom features all-glass walls, offering a clear panorama of the surrounding beauty as well as perfect views of the night’s sky that lights up with the Aurora Borealis, creating the most beautiful wallpaper you could ever ask for!
