Yes, Our Farmers Markets Are Open as an Essential Service | As San Francisco and other areas have issued shelter-in-place orders for residents to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are here for you. We continue to monitor and respond to health advisories, and are adjusting our farmers market operations for your safety. We wholeheartedly support these important preventative efforts to keep our community safe and healthy. Certified farmers markets are exempt from the San Francisco order, and our Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday farmers markets are OPEN for your essential food needs. Farmers markets are critical to community food security and are listed among places individuals may leave their residence to conduct "essential business," along with grocery stores and food banks. You can read the full order here. Please help us ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone: Maintain a distance of six feet from other people while shopping. Wash your hands frequently. Bathrooms are available inside the Ferry Building. Cover your sneeze or cough. If you are not well, please stay home. Please do not handle items you do not intend to buy. Wash your fruits and vegetables thoroughly at home. Be kind, and stay nourished. We’re all in this together! Take Action to Protect Farmers Markets | While grocery stores are straining to keep up with a surge in demand for food, farmers markets have a vital role to play in feeding our communities. CUESA has sent letters to city and state officials to ensure that farmers markets remain protected as an essential source of community food security during this public health crisis. Locally, San Francisco, Alameda, and other counties have officially stated that certified farmers markets are exempt from shelter-in-place orders, serving an essential function along with grocery stores, food retail outlets, and food banks. We have joined the California Farmers Market Alliance in signing on to a letter advocating to the CDFA that they officially recognize farmers markets as an essential service at the state level, as well. If you would like to join the effort, please contact Governor Newsom to share your support of keeping farmers markets open and protected. Thank you for your partnership and support. | |
