| | Minneapolis weighs increasing funding for community violence prevention | This week Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey proposed a $1.8 billion budget which includes an increase in funding for community-driven violence prevention efforts. Supporters of the programs say it may be hard to measure their effectiveness, but that doesn't mean the programs are not working. It has been nearly a decade since Charles Caine decided he wanted to make a difference in North Minneapolis, where he grew up. “I was working as a forklift operator at a factory,” Caine said. “I was a single father and I was looking for something more meaningful in life, than just working a 9-to-5.” Caine founded Brothers EMpowered, a community-based organization that provides outreach to local families of color that includes food shelves, job placement resources and interventions in potential conflicts when it is safe to do so. | |

| Spending and competition are up in Minnesota off-year school board races. Nearly two hundred candidates have thrown their hat in the ring to run for the more than 100 open school board seats in districts across Minnesota. And they’re spending more money on those races than they have in the past. Feds allege gang member carjacked rival, posted video of attack online. An alleged Minneapolis gang member is facing federal charges after allegedly posting video of himself carjacking a rival. Art Hounds: Chamber music in the open air, jazz dance and puppets. This week, the Art Hounds recommend an outdoor chamber concert, a jazz dance performance and a puppet pageant. Hennepin commissioner LaTondresse to resign, take top position with housing nonprofit. LaTondresse says his resignation is effective on Sept. 21. His term would have ended in January 2025. The county board says it will announce the date of a special election to fill his vacancy in the coming days. Barrier coming to site of Minnesota nuclear plant leak. The project comes after the Monticello Nuclear Plant leaked water containing radioactive tritium last November. Rochester woman pleads guilty to Jan 6. felony charge. Appearing in a Washington, D.C. federal courtroom, Victoria Charity White, 41, admitted to helping hoist up a fellow rioter outside the Capitol, who then made his way to a tunnel entrance and kicked police.
