Mankato continues to see a growth in diversity, but the lack of childcare centers catering to diverse families has led to community members stepping in to fill the gaps.
Winning Heart Childcare Center opened just eight months ago. It's already at 90 percent capacity. Director Anis Abdullahi says the lack of diverse daycare left parents frustrated.
“It's hard for them to entrust their kids with people didn't really understand or know what's happening in the daycare or even what kind of foods they might be getting.” | |

An alleged victim of top Minnesota Republican Party donor Tony Lazzaro testified in federal court Wednesday that Lazzaro paid her for sex after connecting with her on social media.
In her opening statement, Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Provinzino said Lazzaro “recruited, bought and consumed 15 and 16-year-old girls for his own sexual satisfaction.”
Lazzaro was a major donor to state Republicans, including the late Congressman Jim Hagedorn, who was married to former party chair Jennifer Carnahan. Lazzaro and Carnahan had been friends since 2016 and hosted a podcast together, and Lazzaro backed her bid to lead the state party.
