| | Minnesota kids love outdoor learning. Lawmakers are paying attention
| Minnesota’s outdoor learning centers generate a love of learning among kids. A recent visit with fifth graders to Wolf Ridge in northeastern Minnesota helps to understand why the centers are popular, and why lawmakers are interested in expanding outdoor learning. “Everybody should get the chance to come up here,” said 11-year-old Geno Conlon. Dozens of lawmakers from both parties have expressed interest in the idea. “In Minnesota, our Constitution protects hunting and fishing as part of what it means to be Minnesotan” but younger generations are “literally getting no exposure to that,” said Rep. Kristi Pursell, DFL-Northfield, who sponsored a bill that would pilot a grant program for more outdoor learning. “I think that is why this is really resonating with my colleagues, regardless of your political affiliation.” | |
