A chilly northwest wind, likely topping 30 mph again, will bring a cooler day for Tuesday. Look for high temperatures in the mid-40s to mid-50s north and around 60 in the south. The Twin Cities should see upper 50s, which would be close to average. Get the latest weather news on Updraft.

Coming up on Morning Edition: Jury selection continues Tuesday morning in the first criminal trial in the Feeding our Future case. Federal prosecutors say 70 people conspired to defraud government food programs meant for children in need. Seven of those defendants are going on trial this week. Reporter Matt Sepic joins us.

An Arbor Day tradition aims to put trees in ground while easing political tensions at Capitol

For the past several decades, two Democrats and two Republicans in the Minnesota House have passed out trees on Arbor Day as a brief respite from political tensions at the Capitol.

The four lawmakers split the cost and the last few years they’ve been buying from Schumacher Nursery in Heron Lake. On Thursday, lawmakers will pass out three wildlife-friendly species of trees: black cherry, cranberry bush and white oak.
 
$15 for a pack of cigarettes? Supporters, opponents speak out ahead of Minneapolis City Council meeting

The proposed ordinance would not only raise the minimum price of tobacco products, it would also ban price discounts and coupons on tobacco products. That’s a move that proponents say would make it easier for people to quit.

Health officials say young adult nonsmokers who receive tobacco coupons are twice as likely to become smokers. And the tobacco industry has historically targeted Black communities with marketing to get people hooked.

'Ady' no more: Erroneous highway sign in St. Paul gets temporary fix. As of early Tuesday, MnDOT crews had slapped a patch over the erroneous highway sign that had been installed along Interstate 35E last week, correcting the spelling of Ayd Mill Road.

Mood of the Nation: Angry.  Nine in 10 Americans can name either a recent news event or something about American politics that made them angry, while only half could identify a recent news event or something about American politics that made them proud, according to the latest Mood of the Nation Poll.

TikTok ban expected to become law, but it’s not so simple. What’s next?
It will mark the first time ever Congress has passed legislation aimed at shutting down a social media platform, something U.S. government officials have long criticized other nations for doing.

Republican candidate says he will continue to run regardless of endorsement.
Former federal prosecutor Joe Teirab and criminal defense attorney Tayler Rahm are running against each other in the Republican primary for Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District. They both signed a pledge last fall agreeing to back the favorite of the endorsing convention. Now, Teirab said he’s running in the primary even if he fails to win the GOP endorsement.
