Goodhue County shifts right + Feeding Our Future trial
It’ll be warmer Tuesday ahead of a cold front and disturbance that will create thunderstorm potential. Highs will be in the low 70s south to 50s in the far north. Southern Minnesota will see potentially strong to severe storms Tuesday afternoon and evening. Get the latest weather news on Updraft. Coming up on Morning Edition: Tuesday afternoon, part of St. Paul's St. Anthony Avenue will be restored to its original name — Rondo Avenue. It honors the historically Black Rondo neighborhood that was split by the construction of I-94 in the 1950s and ‘60s. ReConnect Rondo Board Chair Marvin Roger Anderson joins us to share more about what made the renaming possible and what it means to the community.
Coming up at 9 a.m. Bartenders do more than mix cocktails and mocktails. They’re rubbing elbows with politicians and entrepreneurs, with people celebrating and people down on their luck, with regulars from down the block and tourists from across the world. Our guests are bartenders at the St. Paul Grill, inside the St. Paul Hotel in downtown St. Paul. We’ll hear stories and tricks of the trade from their decades on the job. | |

| | As Goodhue County shifts further right, compromise is harder to find | Goodhue County’s evolution from a moderately conservative area to a deeper red region is a window into broader political trends that track along stark geographic lines, said Larry Jacobs, a political science professor at the University of Minnesota and the director of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance. Rural areas have become more Republican, while Democrats are “sorting into suburban and urban areas,” said Jacobs. The result is more political polarization. “Minnesota is catching up with the rest of the country,” he said. | |
