🏕️ Every year, thousands of people visit the Boundary Waters and other remote, wild areas of northern Minnesota. And every year lots of people run into trouble and call for help. Those who respond are often nurses, police officers and other volunteers who sometimes spend several days on missions. MPR News guest host Dan Kraker talks with two volunteer responders who describe what goes into those missions.

St. Paul’s Sunisa Lee and the rest of the U.S. women’s gymnastics team won gold in the team artistic gymnastics competition in Paris. As when Lee won her first gold in 2021, her extended family, friends and supporters gathered in Minnesota to watch her compete.
The star gymnast has dealt with kidney issues that almost kept her out of this year’s Olympics and threw her future in the sport into question. But her health improved, and earlier this year she made a comeback. | |

| | Four-time Paralympian Chuck Aoki strives to make athletes with disabilities more visible |
Minneapolis-native Chuck Aoki will be heading to Paris next month for the Paralympics to compete in wheelchair rugby. He will be the first Team USA Paralympian to compete in four Paralympic games.
"I grew up with a disability, but I was a really active kid. I wanted to play sports," he said. "But when it turned out I was going to have to use a wheelchair full time, my parents were sort of like, you’re still going to be active, we’re still going to find ways for you to do it." | |
