| Coming up on Morning Edition | It's day two of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, where delegates have officially formalized Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris' running mate. The first night was a tribute to President Biden's accomplishments in office, roughly one month after he ended his re-election bid, and a celebration of cracking the glass ceiling for women in politics. If elected, Kamala Harris would become the first woman president of the United States. We speak with Minnesota delegate Lori Sellner, who's been to several Democratic conventions. And Secretary of State Antony Blinken is pushing for a cease-fire in Gaza and says he had a constructive meeting yesterday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Now, as NPR's Kat Lonsdorf reports, Blinken heads to Egypt and Qatar to try to seal the deal. |

Tim Walz emphasizing his rural roots as a vice-presidential candidate. Some Democrats feel like their party is out of touch with rural voters. “There was a point in the late ‘80s when you could drive from the Canadian border to Iowa and western Minnesota, and never leave a DFL district. And slowly that eroded,” Jack Considine said. | |
