Floods resume; MN Met Gala Black Fashion Week

Attn: Everyone in the northern half of Minnesota, we're looking at an air quality alert tomorrow from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. — record heat has fueled this early (and vigorous) start to the Canadian wildfire season. We'll see highs in the 80s across much of the state tomorrow, us Fargo-Moorhead folks included. Get the latest on Updraft.

Heavy rain means rivers rising again, some St. Paul streets won't reopen yet

River levels were on their way down, but recent storms have dropped more than a half-foot of rain in southern Minnesota. Runoff is making its way down the Mississippi and Minnesota River. The Red River and the Mississippi upstream from the cities should keep falling.

⚖️ Two plead guilty in February attack on transgender woman

Two men who attacked a transgender woman at a Minneapolis light rail station in February are expected to receive four-month jail sentences. Hate crime sentencing was not considered, the attorney's office said, because of lack of evidence that anti-trans bias motivated the men.

🏥 Minnesota legislators add hospital carve-out to nurse staffing bill

If approved, health care systems could side-step some of the major provisions of the proposed Keeping Nurses at the Bedside Act, including the requirement that a committee made up of nurses, executives and others agree to staffing plans or, if they can’t, resolve their issues through arbitration.

💼 3M fires company executive for inappropriate conduct weeks after promotion

Due to “inappropriate personal conduct and violation of company policy,” 3M announced it has fired company executive Michael Vale. He worked at 3M for more than 30 years.

🍃 Negotiators settle on Minnesota marijuana taxes, possession limits

At this stage, it’s less about counting votes as it is about how — and how soon —Minnesota’s marijuana market gets off the ground. Today, the House-Senate panel made changes to set the possession limit and to spell out a process to revisit criminal records for past marijuana offenses. They also firmed up a tax rate.
