New violent death dashboard; enter: Blizzo

Our weather pattern looks mostly quiet into early Sunday. A little freezing fog may occur Friday morning. Highs Friday and Saturday will thaw into the 30s across most of Minnesota. Get the latest on Updraft.

New statewide dashboard aims to raise awareness of violent deaths

Information gathered will be used to support more informed policy and practice decisions. While currently the data covers only the six-year period from 2015 to 2020 there are plans to update the information as more is collected.

Ready to be loved: Blizzo the Lizzo-inspired snowplow debuts

The moment many Minnesotans have been waiting for has finally come: “Blizzo” is officially on the streets. The snowplow was revealed on Thursday at the Camden neighborhood truck station in north Minneapolis.

🚗 Minnesota catalytic converter theft bill rumbles toward approval

The bill gives authorities more ability to arrest people caught with emissions devices that can’t be traced to a vehicle. And scrap metal dealers could face penalties if they buy stolen converters. Converters would also need to contain legally-transferred VINs.

🎣 Walleye fishing on Mille Lacs to stay open all summer

As of late, walleye fishing on the popular central Minnesota lake closes for the first few weeks of July. Fisheries experts were concerned about hooking mortality which occurs more frequently when water temperatures are warmer. But walleye population is improving, and the winter harvest was lower this year, due in part to poor ice conditions.

🐾 A bi-paw-tisan effort? Lawmakers pitch pet-specific animal board

Right now, issues pertaining to cats and dogs fall under a board set up to deal with illnesses with herds and flocks in the state. Lawmakers and the humane society said dog and cat issues should fall to a panel not spending as much time on agricultural issues.
