Your Farmers Market Needs Your Support | Dear Friends, You are incredibly important to this community, and we hope you are staying nourished and healthy. For the last 27 years, the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market has been your treasured community resource to connect with sustainable family farmers and food crafters who work to bring us fresh and delicious local food. These past four weeks have been challenging for us all, and I want you to know that right now, in this moment, you are needed more than ever to make sure our markets and organization can weather this uncertainty. We have been fighting for (and so far have won!) the ability to keep your markets operating as an essential function during this shelter-in-place order. We’ve had to make many adjustments to keep the market safe, and for the foreseeable future, there will be no “business-as-usual” at CUESA. And yet, this work has never felt more urgent. More than 100 farmers and food makers depend on our farmers markets for their livelihoods and thousands of individuals depend on them for fresh food. As global food supply chains strain, resilient local food systems are all the more vital to community food security, now and in the long-term. As a mission-driven nonprofit, CUESA sustains itself through farmers market stall fees and fundraising events and sponsorships—and all events are on pause for the foreseeable future. With our community sheltering-in-place and our pop-up restaurants only able to serve food to-go, farmers markets are bringing in 25% of their normal revenue. We are asking for your support to help us bridge the next two months so that we can continue to provide critical access to healthy, local food to you, and support our farmers’ livelihoods through this crisis. Please give to our Save Your Farmers Market Fund today. Our Board of Directors has pledged to match donations up to $10,000, today through April 15, 2020. This means that your gift will go twice as far to help keep CUESA going through this crisis. Remember that no gift is too small! We at CUESA have never been more determined to protect our farmers and make sure you and everyone in our community is well fed. This is not only key to surviving this pandemic, but will help us rebuild a better future in the long recovery ahead. Your support helps us: Ensure farmers market safety by providing handwashing stations, monitoring social distancing, and providing educational signage. Support our farmers and food makers through this crisis by keeping our markets running smoothly and helping them transition to online ordering systems. Advocate at the city and state levelsto keep farmers markets open as an essential service. California is leading the way in this national effort, and CUESA has been at the frontlines of this advocacy. Provide critical food access for low-income families, delivering more than $50,000 in fresh produce through SNAP benefits and Market Match incentives each year. Support the Food Runners food recovery program in donating excess produce to families in need. Create online educational resourcesto keep you nourished at home while you are sheltering-in-place. Be here for you in the next 27 years and beyond! Please give today—and have your gift matched—so that we can all continue to benefit from the market for years to come. Thank you for supporting our farmers and creating the vibrant, resilient, and sustainable future. In community, | |
