Your risk of financial fraud is higher right now

During this crisis, scammers are making phone calls and sending emails to trick you into sending them money, or giving them your personal or account information so they can steal from you. I warned about this on my radio show this past weekend, and I wanted to warn you, too. If you get a call or email from a brokerage or financial firm, be careful. If you don’t have an account with that company, hang up or delete the email. If you do have an account, call the company back—not the person who called you. Get the phone number from your account statement or Google. Do not call the phone number the caller has given you or reply to their emails. Don’t fall prey to imposter scams: These include people who call you claiming to be from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) or World Health Organization (WHO) or say they are raising money for healthcare charities or first responders. Finally, don’t purchase “cures” or remedies you see advertised on TV or online—if these preventatives existed, hospitals would be using them! Beware the “grandparent scam” where someone claims to be your grandchild and says they need money quickly because they’re in trouble. Be suspicious of love scams. If you meet people online, don’t send money to them – regardless of their claim.
