As you're reading these lines, a group of young UBI advocates is representing us at the European Youth Event in Strasbourg, where they interact with thousands of young people from all over Europe and Members of the European Parliament. They're also hosting a workshop under the title “The future is us – building our ideal society”. Registrations for the 22nd BIEN Congress are open now! For all those who can't make it to Seoul, tuning in online will also be possible. Some UBIE activists who are also actively involved in the global initiative Basic Income Research and Action Lab (BIRAL) are planning to participate in the Congress to share their knowledge about making local UBI pilots happen around the world. It's also time to submit your proposals for the FRIBIS Annual Conference, this time focusing on the topic of gender and care. Keep reading for details! | Yours unconditionally, The UBIE Core Group: Antonis, Maria, Alessandra, Dániel and Ulrich | Make local UBI pilots happen around the world | The Basic Income Research & Action Lab (BIRAL) is a network of researchers and activists dedicated to analysing and advocating for Basic Income systems and pilots worldwide. By focusing on municipal and regional levels, BIRAL aims to provide valuable insights and tools for political leaders interested in implementing Basic Income schemes in their communities. BIRAL members have been accepted to participate in the 22nd BIEN Congress in Seoul this summer. During the event, they will present their first official research paper, “Towards a Municipalist Basic Income”, and conduct interviews for their “Voices of Basic Income” podcast. However, to ensure their participation, your help to cover travel expenses is needed! Adonation of any size can support their mission to make Basic Income a reality and empower their research and action efforts.
| Care and Gender – Call for Contributions This year’s FRIBIS Annual Conference (Freiburg/Germany, 9-11 October) will focus on the topic "Care and Gender – Potentials & Risks of UBI". Over the past few decades care work and the social dimension of gender have increasingly become central issues in both academic and public debates. Find out more | UBI for the Arts in Ireland The Government of Ireland is running a Basic Income pilot that began in September 2022. 2000 artists and cultural workers will receive a weekly unconditional income of €325 weekly for a period of three years. In this session, the UBI Lab network looked into what we have learned after 8 months. Watch the recording | CO2 Taxation for a Green Basic Income? As part of the “UBITrans Public Seminar Series” event series hosted by FRIBIS’ UBITrans team, Philipp Frey will give a lecture on the idea to redistribute the revenues from CO2 taxes as a way reconcile social sustainability with an ecological steering effect. Find out more | 22nd BIEN Congress open for registration The 22nd Basic Income Congress Network Congress in 2023 will take place in Seoul, Korea, from 23 to 26 August as a four-day online-offline hybrid on the theme of “Basic Income in Reality”.
