About a quarter of the federal government will shut down on Friday night at midnight unless Congress can pass some sort of spending bill. That doesn't look likely. Republicans in Congress are trying to persuade President Trump to back off his demand for border wall funding, but Trump seems to believe the issue is a winning one for him.
