A Message From the Editor

Like a lot of people, I’ve been obsessed with the Jeopardy Greatest of All Time tournament for the past week-plus. And like a lot of people, I’ve gotten roughly 20 percent of the questions right, compared to 80+ percent for the three champions. So I was excited last Thursday when they had a category called “Cybersecurity”… then a bit dismayed when I went a perfect 5 for 5, but the “GOATs” blanked on the $600 and $1000 questions.

It reminded me just how specialized a lot of our knowledge in legal technology actually is. Sure, I thought it was common knowledge what BYOD stood for (bring your own device, of course), but these trivia experts answering questions about Indonesia’s president in 1965 had no idea. Still, that means that everyone who knows security, privacy, discovery and the like have an opportunity. I feel strongly that it’s our duty to educate not only other people in legal, but the public at large about how these concepts will affect their daily lives. Just by the numbers, I’m going to bet that at least one of GOATs have been caught up in a major data breach, after all. And maybe in a few years, if there’s another Cybersecurity category, the next wave of Jeopardy superstars won’t blank on the category.
