I was talking to Ashley Ball, PharmD Candidate, LECOM-School of Pharmacy, about the problem with helping patients with DPN. We were talking about how you can definitively say the pain is really DPN, and not something else like arthritis.
She decided to see what kind of tests were available and how effective they are. Unlike glucose monitors, CGM devices, or even blood pressure monitors, there is no definitive device that clinicians can use.
She did put together a great feature on what is available and how you can take advantage of these tests for your patient.

Newsflash: US Preventive Services Task Force Issues New Screening Recommendation

The US Preventive Services Task Force released a final recommendation statement, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, calling for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes screening for asymptomatic adults starting at 35 years of age for those that are overweight.

Did You Know? The Effects of Long-Term Drinking of Coffee:

The object of the study was to evaluate the long-term consequences of coffee drinking in patients with T2D and how it affects the risk of mortality from all-cause, CVD, and CHD. The researchers included ten prospective cohort studies with 82,270 cases. They found that compared to those with no coffee consumption, the HRs for 4 cups were 0.79, for all-cause mortality, 0,60, for CVD mortality, 0.68, for coronary heart disease (CHD) mortality, 0.72 for CHD, and 0.77 for total CVD events. Thus, the researchers concluded that "Drinking coffee can be inversely associated with the risk of mortality in patients with T2D."
