Friend, Last week The White House sent a proposed rescissions package to Congress, which includes a $1.1 billion cut in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), taking back money previously appropriated by Congress. While Congress has 45 days to consider this, the House of Representatives just cleared the way for a likely vote on the rescissions package bill later this week. It’s critical that you and other supporters of Minnesota Public Radio (MPR)—and public radio in general—take action today and call your members of Congress. Our easy-to-use online tool will provide the phone number of your representative.Please ask your members of Congress to vote no on the rescissions package. While phone calls are most effective, you can use our tool to send an email if you don’t have time to call.

If the rescissions package cuts are enacted, they will effectively dismantle the public media system by defunding the CPB, the private, nonprofit corporation that supports 1,300 local public media stations across the country, like MPR, as well as NPR and PBS. Many public media stations that serve smaller, rural, and underserved communities would not survive. After consideration in the House, the rescissions bill will head to the Senate.
