By keeping a diary of what you eat and drink and your signs and symptoms, you may begin to see a connection between certain foods and beverages and episodes of incontinence. Bladder irritants The following list includes foods and beverages that can lead to bladder irritability. Remember that it’s not necessary to completely cut out all of the items listed here. But if one or more of these items seem to be causing you problems, you may want to significantly reduce how much you consume, or avoid the items altogether. | Carbonated beverages Soda and sparkling water Alcohol Beer, liquor, wine and wine coolers Caffeine Coffee, tea and chocolate Some medications and supplements | Citrus fruits and juices Orange, grapefruit, lemon, lime, mango and pineapple Vitamin C supplements Tomatoes and tomato-based foods Tomato juice and tomato sauce Barbecue sauce Chili Onions and spicy foods Foods that use chili peppers or other pungent spices (Mexican, Thai, Indian, Cajun) Foods containing vinegar Pickled foods, dressings and some condiments Products containing aspartame and saccharin Diet soda Sugar-free ice cream and cocoa mix Sugarless candy Some vitamins, supplements and medications |
