Swedish feature film "Tigers" opens 18th edition of 11mm After a one-year pandemic break, the international football film festival "11mm" celebrates its return to the big screen at Babylon Berlin from May 12 to 16! "We are proud and happy that we as a festival team can finally do again what we love to do" explains festival director Birger Schmidt. "Watching great films together with international filmmakers, footballers and especially our audience. It's great fun to explore the world of football." In its 18th edition, the festival organized by the Berlin-based association Brot & Spiele presents over 50 feature films, documentaries, short films & series on the topic of soccer. On the eve of the war, which began in the middle of the preparations for the festival, the makers are dedicating a festival focus this year to the "football country Ukraine". "Together with the team of the Berlin-based Ukrainian Film Festival, we have selected five football films in total, which will introduce our guests to Ukraine's rich football tradition," explains Schmidt. For the grand opening, 11mm will show the Swedish feature film "Tigers." It tells the true story of the Swedish young talent Martin Bengtsson, who moved to Inter Milan as a teenager and broke down there due to the omnipresent pressure in the club's academy. Martin Bengtsson will join director Ronnie Sandahl in Berlin for the festival opening. "We are especially pleased that this year an extraordinary number of directors, football players and festival makers* have accepted our invitation to Berlin," the festival director is pleased to say. "We expect master coach Otto Rehhagel, director and Oscar winner Asif Kapadia, and football originals like Gábor Király and Ansgar Brinkmann, who will be presented in two documentaries." As a visual artist, the 11mm team welcomes former European and Olympic champion Josephine Henning. She will present a show of her work in the Oval of the Babylon - another highlight of this probably unique festival of football culture. In addition to the cinema program, this year's festival will also have an online offer for those who cannot come to Berlin or do not want to go to the cinema. A total of 20 films from the program will be available to stream over the 5 days of the festival. The opening night of the festival will also be broadcast live. |
