Join us Thursday, May 1st at 6:30 PM for CAM After Dark with acclaimed NC artist Beverly McIver as she leads an insightful conversation surrounding her works on view in the exhibition We Belong Here: The Gutierrez Collection.
Known for her bold autobiographical paintings, Beverly McIver invites viewers into her personal story, exploring themes of family and African-American identity.
In this talk, McIver will focus on the vibrant and emotive portraits that have become signature subjects in her work. Fresh, innovative, and spontaneous in her approach, she creates series of works in a manner she describes as “painfully honest. |

MARY’S ART EXPLORERS: LINES THAT WIGGLE Thursday, April 24 | 10 am CAM Members: $5 per adult/child Not-Yet Members: $10 per adult/child Children Ages 2 & Under: Free Join us in the Pancoe Education Building as we read Lines That Wiggle by Candace Whitman, illustrated by Steve Wilson. After the reading, participants will create a story-inspired craft. This is a great opportunity for the whole family! Mary's Art Explorers is geared towards infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, but big brothers and sisters are welcome to join and create art with us.

| Elisabeth Chant On viewFebruary 7 – April 27, 2025. Closing soon! North Carolina artist Elisabeth Chant (1865-1947) made an indelible mark on Wilmington’s art community. She became known for her vibrant landscapes and scenes of the North Carolina coast. Chant also created decorative designs and explored mysticism and spiritual themes, which informed her artistic style. She was instrumental in developing Wilmington’s cultural landscape, founding art classes, mentoring young artists, and establishing a community art association. This exhibition explores the people and landscapes of Chant’s world. |

SKETCHING AND PAINTING CARNIVOROUS PLANTS Instructor: Carolyn Faulkner Experience the intriguing world of carnivorous plants up close. Our first session starts at the Stanley Rehder Carnivorous Plant Garden, where you can take photos or create quick sketches of these amazing plants! Afterward, we'll return to the CAM to continue sketching. If it rains on the first day, photos will be provided, and the class will begin at the CAM instead. We'll dive into contour drawing, shading, simplifying complex shapes, color mixing, and layering colors to achieve depth and texture.
